Biban Gill PhD
PhD, Chemical Biology
Post-Doctorate Fellowship at McMaster University
Education:
- Biban obtained her Honours B.Sc. (Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, 2016) in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Toronto
Biography:
Research Interests
Biban is interested in the field of exposomics. Her current work is focused on analyzing the urine of firefighters for both targeted and unknown chemicals. Firefighters are subjected to acute and chronic exposures from chemical compounds related to fire events. As such Biban hopes to evaluate the extent of this exposure as well as the ability of these individuals to respond to various levels of exposure using capillary electrophoresis coupled with time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Compounds of interest include, yet are not limited to urinary markers for smoke exposure such as hydroxypolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, as well as urinary markers for oxidative stress including oxoguanosine and glutathione.
